The Next Three Days

The Next Three Days

I'm not a fan of Russell Crowe. He is one of those actors that has one facial expression and is at his best when he is silent and showing some skin. From Paul Haggis, the director, I was expecting much more. He gave us "Crash". He produced "Letters from Iwo Jima" and "Million Dollar Baby". This story has been told a million times before, different variations. The only slightly interesting fact, is this time its the woman. But all in all the story doesn't grab you. Its slow, pathetic and painful. Somewhere towards 3/4 of the movie, there is a doesn't...the most bizarre because it seems completely disconnected from the rest of the movie. And it is the only decent and exciting thing that happens in the whole film.
I challenge you to figure out what I'm talking about...

Isn't worth 3 minutes of your time!

The Adjustment Bureau

The Adjustment Bureau

The Adjustment Bureau is a perfectly acceptable movie if you are a romance-seeking teenager who believes in destiny. However, if, like me, you are expecting some interesting sci-fi story, then save your money.
I'm told the movie is loosely based on Phillip K. Dick's short story "Adjustment Team".
And VERY loosely it is.
The original short story is very good, based on an interesting and explorable concept.
Indeed, it would have been easy and much better to have stuck to the original storyline, which doesn't have
any lovers or sappiness in sight. Instead, the producers preferred to relegate the only cool part of the movie (the existence and meanderings of an "adjustment team") and give presidence to
a sappy, tear-jerking love-story. Ah...such a waste of my time and money.

This movie needs an adjustment!

Somewhere

Somewhere

Oh Sofia. You show us 97 minutes of the life of an actor, his sexapades,
his drugs, his drinking, his rock and roll and YOU MAKE IT BORING.

And that's NOT an easy thing to do!

The only thing saving this movie is Ellie Fanning. She is wonderful. Even her silence is meaningful. Ok, I grant that there are small (very small) glimpses of interest, in her relationship with her father. But how she and that guy can share genes is beyond me.
Good thing its only a movie!

The Kids are All Right

The Kids are All Right

A lesbian couple have two teenage kids. Everything is pretty much stereotypical:
"dad" holds a hard-working, well-earning job but is strict and hardly home;
"mom"
is a senstive, creative home-maker but is a little lost;
the kids are two
slightly obnoxious but sweet teenagers.

Then Mr. Sperm Donour comes along and pretty much screws everything up. Or does he?

Annette Bening and Julian Moore are great but Mark Ruffalo seems to have popped a vein or have swallowed one too many sleeping pills.

A lesbian must see!

Outcasts

A new BBC sci-fi series.
I've just watched the last episode last night and it fulfilled my expectations of good sci-fi.
Almost all the plot lines were explained within the 8 episodes, it had sufficient character development and it still left a dangling cliff hanger for the next season (if its produced).

You might think that a cliffhanger on such a format is dangerous and terrible for the viewers because its not guaranteed to have new seasons produced, but I felt it was a cautious gamble to try and keep the viewers interested while not scrubbing every effort in the rest of the season to develop stories and characters.

So if you like Sci Fi, if you want something different,
and if you don't mind the terrible cliché of a message
(I won't spoil it but the moral of the series is predictable and a bit lame),
do yourself a favor and watch this 8-episodes season.

I know I didn't consider my time wasted!

It's already out on DVD on the Amazon.co.uk!

Defying Gravity

A different sci-fi tv series that was cancelled too soon.
It dealt openly with alien life forms, the usual conspiracy to hide it all from the public,
but also the reactions individuals had to this revelation of aliens existence.

I enjoyed it immensely, it truly seemed a unique story. A shame we never got the rest of the possibilities..

If you want to know more about it, this link shows a possible ending by one of the creators...
